Choose Your Own Adventure

Remember these books? As an 80’s kid, I loved these books growing up. I had a whole bunch of them that my parents bought for me.

At the end of each chapter you get to decide where the story goes next. You could read the book over and over and get new endings and have new outcomes.

Dog-eared, bookmarked, and stained by greasy fingers, some did not fare well as all the possible endings were explored.

Having your own business and running a farm is very much a “choose your own adventure” type of lifestyle.

While we sometimes face challenges and tough decisions, we more often than not get the chance to pick paths that allow us to follow our passions.

Some choices work out well, others do not, but it affords us the chance to learn and grow within the framework of this journey.

In opposition to the extractive capitalist agricultural industrial complex, we are humble peasants (it’s OK, I look like a Puerto Rican Hobbit) who fill an important role.

We’re very fortunate that our path is one of providing sustenance in a small, tight-knit, rural community and this keeps us gainfully employed.

We’re very lucky to live in a county of folks who care about soil, ecology and the miles their food has to travel.

And it is within this pretty amazing grass-roots network that we get to, as Joseph Campbell put it, “follow [y]our bliss.”

So I hope you follow your bliss, and thanks as always for choosing us in your adventure.
