Saturday January 28th, was the start of the Chinese New Year (the Year of the Rooster or the Fire Red Hen) and it also marked a major milestone for our artisan bread as we attended our first farmer’s market!
It came about a lot faster than we thought.
We were contacted on our Facebook page by Curdie Gardner a few weeks before the event and we said yes without really knowing what we would be doing.
I recently started baking for the Village Meat Market & Bakery in Willsboro.
It is ran by the nicest people you could meet and it’s long time, small town iconic establishment.
Having known my wood-fired bread oven plans, they were interested in having me begin baking my hand-made bread recipes in order to help us get our name out into the public.
When the farmer’s market came up, they gladly offered the use of their ovens to let me bake bread.
So addition to baking bread for the next Westport Winter Farmer’s Market, we’ll be offering some of our loaves at the Village Meat Market as well.
Farmer’s Market
The other farmers and vendors, as experienced market folks, were very supportive.
We shared our wares and talked about future ideas for collaboration.
To be alongside seasoned farmers like Ashley at North Country Creamery, James at Full and By Farm and Reber Rock Farm provided a multitude of networking opportunities as well when our booths weren’t busy with happy customers.
All were in agreement that the first Westport Winter Farmer’s Market was an all-around success.
It was well-attended and the venue is cozy.
In Motion
Things are definitely in motion now and there is no going back!
It’s been an exciting start to the year and it was nice to sellout at our first market.
The next farmer’s market is February 25th at 10am at the Westport Heritage House.
We’re going to make sure we have enough bread to sell as well.
Future dates will be the last Saturday of the month:
- March 25th, 10-2pm
- April 29th, 10-2pm
We hope to see you there if you can make it!
